COCOTURF WINS SAPCA AWARD FOR SUSTAINABILITY
We are proud to announce that CocoTurf has won the 2026 SAPCA Sustainability Product of the Year Award, with the award presented at the SAPCA Annual Conference & Awards Dinner on 26 February 2026 at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
The award was accepted by Tom Walton on behalf of the Notts Sport team, marking a significant milestone not only for the company but also for the continued development of more sustainable solutions within the playground and sports surfacing industry. The recognition reflects years of research, innovation and commitment to delivering products that support both high performance and environmental responsibility.
The SAPCA Awards are widely regarded as one of the most respected accolades within the sport and play construction sector, celebrating excellence, innovation and leadership across the industry. Winning in the Sustainability Product of the Year category recognises CocoTurf’s pioneering approach to addressing one of the sector’s biggest environmental challenges — the reliance on plastic-based synthetic surfaces.
Unlike traditional artificial playground surfacing systems, which are typically manufactured using plastic fibres and petroleum-based synthetic materials, CocoTurf is made using natural coconut husk fibres combined with a natural rubber latex backing. This innovative construction removes plastic entirely from the product, helping to prevent microplastic pollution at its source while significantly reducing long-term environmental impact.
The use of renewable natural materials also offers important benefits at the end of the product’s lifecycle, helping schools, local authorities and community organisations avoid the complex disposal challenges often associated with conventional synthetic surfaces.
At a time when environmental responsibility is becoming increasingly important across the construction and sports infrastructure sectors, this award highlights the role that forward-thinking product design can play in shaping a more sustainable future. CocoTurf demonstrates that it is possible to combine sustainability, durability, safety and performance in a single surface solution designed specifically for play environments.
