Notts Sport’s CocoTurf has been installed within the new play areas at Woodhall Sports Hub in Leeds, providing a natural surface for children to enjoy as part of a major new community sports facility.

The £9.6 million development in Calverley has been delivered by Leeds City Council in partnership with the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation. The 8.3-hectare site brings together sports pitches, a pavilion, café and meeting space, walking and running routes, and outdoor play areas.

Designed to welcome people of all ages, the Hub provides opportunities for families and local residents to spend time outdoors alongside those taking part in organised sport. The play areas are an important part of that vision, giving younger visitors their own spaces to explore and enjoy.

CocoTurf has been installed within one of these play spaces, offering a natural, sustainable alternative to conventional synthetic grass. Made entirely from natural materials, it combines coconut fibre yarns, a jute backing and natural latex, with no plastic fibres, microplastics or PFAS.

Its natural appearance complements the outdoor setting, while its durability makes it well suited to the demands of a busy community play area. Alongside CocoTurf, VHAF NottsSward surfacing has also been installed within the play provision, helping to create varied and welcoming spaces for children.

The installation demonstrates how CocoTurf can support the play and recreational spaces that surround larger sports facilities, helping sustainability form part of the wider project.
